The GOTS mission is to ensure the highest level of social and environmental impact in textile value chains through voluntary sustainability standards and related activities.
The organization fulfills its mission by development, implementation, verification, protection, and promotion of global Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) for textiles. Based on the successful Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) system and amplifying impact, these standards stipulate requirements throughout the supply chain for ecological, human rights including social criteria and business conduct in textile and apparel manufacturing. They define sustainable materials and practices based on robust scientific findings, ensuring our standards are credible, effective and impactful.
The Global Organic Textile Standard covers the entire production process based on the use of organic fibers from textile processing and manufacturing up to licensing and labelling. While this is a rigorous process in which all criteria must be met, the result is an internationally recognized organic certification demonstrating to stakeholders, partners, and consumers a commitment to providing sustainable, ethical, and high-quality products.
The aim is to define world-wide recognized requirements from the harvesting of raw fiber, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide credible assurance to the end consumer. Textile processors and manufacturers are thus enabled to export their fabrics and garments with certification accepted in all major markets.
